Advances in hybrid hydrogels for diabetic wound healing

Abstract:
Wound healing is severely impaired in diabetic patients, and diabetic wounds are acknowledged as a class of intractable chronic wounds with significant clinical challenges. Hybrid hydrogel-based drug delivery systems, characterized by their structural versatility and functional adjustability, have emerged as promising therapeutic tools for the management of diabetic wounds, owing to their ability to integrate multiple therapeutic modalities. This review summarizes the recent advances in hybrid hydrogel composites, covering polymer-hydrogel composites, micro/nanoparticle-hydrogel composites, and cell-hydrogel composites. Emphasis is placed on the matrix composition of these composites and their pro-healing mechanisms in diabetic wound therapy. Furthermore, the potential applications and future perspectives of hybrid hydrogel-based wound dressings are discussed, providing insights for the further development of therapeutic strategies for chronic wounds.
