Abstract:
This report describes the first fatal case of pasteurellosis caused by a probable novel Pasteurellaceae strain in a lizard. The case involved a 5-year-old male spiny-tailed iguana (Ctenosaura pectinata) exhibiting severe multifocal bacterial granulomatous myocarditis and pneumonia, along with marked congestive hepatomegaly and ascites associated with cardiac lesions. Bacterial proliferation was observed in the heart, lungs, and liver, suggesting hematogenous dissemination. Strain P25039, which is closely related to Pasteurella testudinis, Chelonobacter oris, and Testudinibacter aquarius, has been isolated and identified in various organs.
