Odontogenic myxoma (OM) is a rare jaw tumor. This study presents two cases, a peripheral and a central form, emphasizing diagnosis and treatment of these odontogenic tumors.
Area of Science:
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
- Oncology
- Pathology
Background:
- Odontogenic myxoma (OM) is a rare, benign mesenchymal tumor, comprising 3%-6% of odontogenic tumors.
- Typically intraosseous and more common in the mandible, OMs exhibit slow growth but infiltrative behavior, with recurrence rates up to 43% after incomplete excision.
- Peripheral OMs (POMs) are rare extraosseous lesions in gingival tissues, often presenting non-specifically and mimicking other conditions.
