Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists, like semaglutide, may help patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) achieve remission. This study shows potential benefits for UC patients, especially those with diabetes, when other treatments fail.
Area of Science:
- Gastroenterology
- Endocrinology
- Pharmacology
Background:
- Ulcerative colitis (UC) management often involves immunosuppressive therapy.
- The role of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) in UC is not well-established.
- GLP-1 RAs are primarily used for managing diabetes and obesity.
