Translational Role of Internal Medicine in Advancing Pediatric Precision Medicine
1Department of Pediatrics, Shangcheng District People's Hospital, Hangzhou, China.
Abstract:
Precision medicine is rapidly gaining traction in pediatrics. Although traditionally associated with adult care, internal medicine has become an essential contributor to the advancement of precision approaches for young patients. The growing overlap between internal medicine and pediatrics lies in translational research, technological innovation, and collaborative subspecialty care. Internal medicine has played a key role in developing genomic, proteomic, and bioinformatic tools that now underpin pediatric precision medicine. These advances enable clinicians to identify children at high risk for specific diseases, predict disease trajectories, and select the most effective therapies with minimal side effects. This review examines the evolving landscape of pediatric precision medicine, emphasizing how internal medicine research and interspecialty collaboration drive innovation in pediatric diagnostics and therapeutics. By analyzing current research and clinical practices, we aim to clarify the translational and collaborative role of internal medicine in delivering personalized care to children.

Translation
Translation is the process of synthesizing proteins from the genetic information carried by messenger RNA (mRNA). Following transcription, it constitutes the final step in the expression of genes. This process is carried out by ribosomes, complexes of protein and specialized RNA molecules. Ribosomes, transfer RNA (tRNA), and other proteins produce a chain of amino acids—the polypeptide—as the end product of translation.
