Objective:
To assess the effectiveness of a multicomponent exercise intervention in patients identified according to the Ministry of Health's "Update of the consensus document on the prevention of frailty in older adults (2022)," as well as to determine the level of satisfaction perceived by participants.
Design:
A quasi-experimental pre/post-test study was conducted in patients recruited at convenience through primary care clinics. SITE: Alaquàs Health Centre and Benàger Social Centre.
Participants:
After an assessment of 1,986 individuals, a sample of 238 individuals at risk of frailty was obtained. 48 agreed to participate in the program, and 38 completed it.
Interventions:
Multicomponent exercise program.
Main Measurements:
Dependency level (Barthel) and risk of frailty (SPPB - balance, strength, speed) were assessed. All independent patients at risk of frailty were invited to participate in the program. After the program, SPPB was remeasured, and an ad hoc satisfaction questionnaire was administered.
Results:
The mean age of participants was 79.11 (4.05), with 84.2% being women. After the exercise program, all SPPB variables improved significantly (p <0.05) compared to the previous program, and very high satisfaction percentages were obtained on the questionnaire.
Conclusions:
Multicomponent physical exercise delivered through community-based primary care preventive programs reverses the risk of frailty to previous stages. 55.26% of people with frailty who completed the program emerged from this state.
