[NeoTracker - a self-developed digital event log in delivery room stabilization of newborn infants]

Delivery room care has a crucial impact on both short- and long-term neonatal outcomes. Currently, documentation of these events is often completed retrospectively, hours after the intervention, leading to incomplete, unstructured, and potentially biased or inaccurate records. Real-time, structured, and objective data collection is essential for effective decision support and continuous quality improvement.

To present the clinical relevance and development of a digital delivery room event log (NeoTracker).

Following a needs assessment, we carried out the medical specification of the data content. This was followed by the development of a prototype event log and then the application itself.

During prototype development, events were time-stamped and recorded according to the ABC (airway, breathing, circulation) algorithm used in acute care. The application was developed with information technology support, following the logic of the Newborn Life Support guideline, and including a final summary to support patient documentation.

Retrospective documentation of delivery room care steps hinders the objective assessment of care quality. By use of NeoTracker, real-time and structured data capture enables accurate evaluation of events and facilitates the analysis of association between early interventions and outcomes.

During delivery room care, approximately one in ten newborns requires some form of intervention to support extrauterine adaptation, in which the NeoTracker may play a significant role. Orv Hetil. 2026; 167(15): 595-604.
