[POST-TREATMENT SURVEY OF THE MAINTENANCE OF EFFECTS FOR CEDAR SUBLINGUAL IMMUNOTHERAPY]

Abstract:
We studied post-treatment survey of the maintenance of effects for cedar sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT).
Methods:
Patients who started between 2018 and 2020 and had completed at least three seasons of SLIT with Cedarcure (post-SLIT patients) were surveyed by mail in 2025, regarding as 1) impressions compared to the time of SLIT completion, 2) the VAS (best 0-worst 100mm) of general symptoms in pollen season at 3 points (pre-SLIT, at the end of SLIT and in 2025), 3) medication score. Responses were received from 200 of 370 patients (age 15 [11-42] years, male 97).
Results:
The percentages of the maintenance of effects were 61%, 59%, 51% and 34% in order of 1- to 4-year follow-up, respectively (p<0.05 in 4-year vs 1- or 2-year, unadjusted and uncorrected). The VAS for all patients changed 90→10→20 in median at the three time points. On the 2025 VAS, the 4-year follow-up was significantly worse than the 1- and 2-year follow-ups, and the SLIT treated for 3 years was significantly worse than for 4 or 5 years (p<0.05). Compared with currently undergoing SLIT with the same treatment duration, the VAS of post-SLIT patients was significantly worsened in the group of 3 years of treatment, but not in the group of 4 or 5 years. The medication score was 0.3 in median, and there was no difference with currently SLIT patients.
Conclusion:
Although many patients progressed well, some cases worsened, and the four-year follow-up was significantly worse. A four-year or more treatment is recommended.
