Image quality improvement for a compressive light field hologram via adaptive layer distance according to the depth distribution feature

The compressive light field (CLF) hologram without spatio-angular trade-off is a promising technique for three-dimensional (3D) display. Nevertheless, the image quality is limited by the stacked layer number. In this Letter, we first analyze the depth resolution of the CLF approach and reveal the minimum number of layers required for lossless light field (LF) reconstruction. Then, an adaptive layer distribution framework is proposed to optimize reconstruction quality with a limited number of layers. The proposed method adaptively allocates layer densities according to the distribution of the 3D scene, enabling content-adaptive LF decomposition and hologram synthesis. Compared to the conventional CLF hologram, experimental results confirm that the proposed method enhances the image quality with limited layers, offering a viable path toward a practical, photorealistic 3D holographic display.
