Elevated miR-3619 levels in follicular fluid, granulosa cells, and serum indicate its role in diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) and premature ovarian failure (POF) progression. Increased miR-3619 may serve as a predictive biomarker for POF.
Area of Science:
- Reproductive biology
- Molecular endocrinology
- Genetics
Background:
- Premature ovarian failure (POF) is menopause before age 40, with progression influenced by microRNAs.
- Diminished ovarian reserve (DOR) is an earlier stage in ovarian function decline.
- MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are key regulators in the transition from healthy ovarian function to DOR and POF.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the expression patterns of miR-3619 in women with DOR and POF.
- To assess miR-3619 as a potential biomarker for ovarian conditions.
- To compare miR-3619 levels across healthy controls, DOR patients, and POF patients.
Main Methods:
- Bioinformatics analysis to predict miR-3619 target genes.
- Real-time PCR to quantify miR-3619 expression in serum, follicular fluid (FF), and granulosa cells (GC).
- Analysis of 135 samples from control, DOR, and POF groups.
Main Results:
- miR-3619 expression was significantly higher in FF and GC of DOR patients compared to controls (p ≤0.001).
- Serum miR-3619 levels were markedly elevated in both POF and DOR patients versus controls (p ≤0.0001).
Conclusions:
- Increased miR-3619 expression is a significant indicator of POF progression.
- miR-3619 shows potential as a predictive biomarker for premature ovarian failure.
- The study highlights miR-3619's role in the pathophysiology of ovarian aging.
