Abstract:
Safeguarding plant species used for the benefit of humanity is a priority action to be carried out by various social sectors, including the scientific community. The implementation of innovative conservation strategies is a tool that science provides to safeguard our plant genetic resources for the long term and allow their use. In this sense, this book compiles different strategies for the conservation of plant germplasm, covering short-, medium-, and long-term ex situ conservation as well as in situ conservation. Each of the protocols presented stands out for its effectiveness and ease of implementation. Likewise, the literature reviews expand knowledge on conservation issues. Furthermore, the conservation of plant genetic resources in biobanks is a current trend aimed at ensuring food security for future generations. All of this aims to achieve food and environmental sustainability in the near future.
