Abstract:
Janus coatings can combine strong substrate adhesion with surface hydrophobicity, but they often suffer from weak interlayer interfaces. Here we use visible-light photoiniferter reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization for surface chain extension to "sew" together an all-covalent Janus bilayer (dual-sided functional bilayer), thus delivering 9.0 MPa interlayer adhesion strength and ∼100-fold improved corrosion protection on AZ31B, with similar performance on Q235 and H62.

Phosphodiester Linkages
Phosphodiester bond forms when a phosphoric acid molecule (H3PO4) links with two hydroxyl groups (–OH) of two other molecules, forming two ester bonds. Two water molecules are released in this process. The phosphodiester bond is commonly found in nucleic acids (DNA and RNA) and plays a critical role in their structure and function.
Phosphodiester Bonds Link Nucleotides Together
DNA and RNA are polynucleotides or long chains of nucleotides that are linked together. A nucleotide is...
