Abstract:
Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs) can ignite the downstream signal transduction in various tissues/organs due to the receptor expression across cell types, thus playing multifaceted biological roles in and beyond anti-diabetes. Besides metabolic benefits, anti-inflammatory pathology is emerging as an attractive mode to inspire expanding therapeutic utilities of GLP-1RAs, through the synergistic cellular/molecular mechanisms of modulating meta-inflammation or immuno-metabolism. Thus this article presents a trending profile of representative inflammation-mediated diseases which are likely to be alleviated upon pharmacological augmentation of GLP-1 signaling, including cardiovascular disorders, metabolic associated steatohepatitis, neurodegenerative illness, arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. Insights herein tend to systemically highlight an ongoing translation from the comprehensive GLP-1 effects on multiple organs into greater clinical application of GLP-1RA medication for inflammatory indications.
