This article reviews highlights of pertinent literature published in 2025 relevant to the congenital cardiac anesthesiologist. Following a search of the United States National Library of Medicine PubMed database, several topics emerged in which significant contributions were made in 2025. The authors considered the following topics noteworthy to be included in this review: update on pediatric preoperative fasting or nothing-by-mouth guidelines and their impact on patients with congenital heart disease (CHD), glucagon-like peptide 1 agonist and sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor use in CHD and its implications for congenital heart surgery, children with CHD undergoing noncardiac procedures, and the pediatric cardiac anesthesia workforce shortage.
