Association of Triglyceride With Incident Cancer: An Analysis of the Whole-Body Cancer Screening Program in Japan

Background And Aims:
To examine the association of cancer development with various risk factors, we used data from participants of a whole-body cancer screening program at the Hamamatsu Medical Imaging Center in Japan.
Methods:
For associations between cancer development and various risk factors, the Cox proportional hazards model was used to estimate the hazard ratio (HR) and its confidence intervals (CI) for developing cancer.
Results:
Of the 1495 participants, 59 developed cancers. In multivariable analysis, a statistically significant association was found with triglycerides (HR 1.004; 95% CI: 1.001-1.008) and with the presence of hypertension history (HR 2.88; 95% CI: 1.49-5.53).
Conclusion:
The study suggests that the baseline triglyceride may be a sensitive biomarker for cancer risk.
