Thermoluminescence study of Barium based composite phosphor using gamma rays

Abstract:
Thermoluminescent materials are used for the purpose of dosimetry in medical, physical, nuclear, radiation measurement applications. In the present work thermoluminescence study of Ba2BO3F doped has been carried out using gamma rays. The phosphor was synthesized using solid-state method. The synthesized sample was characterized by X-ray diffraction technique (XRD), and crystallite size was calculated by Debye's Scherrer method which is observed to be 72.56 nm. SEM(Scanning Electron Microscopy) analysis was done to observe the structure of phosphor. The Thermoluminescence study was performed in detail after irradiating the material with gamma rays. For 0.3 mol% of Dy, best TL glow curve is obtained. The synthesized material shows linearity for the dose range 20-3000Gy. Several kinetic trapping parameters were examined using the initial rise, deconvolution code to study thermoluminescence. Activation energy (trap depth) of approximately 0.8 eV was determined. Study of fading, reusability, batch to batch homogeneity was also performed. Therefore, the synthesized materials may be used for applications in high dose radiation dosimetry.
