Objectives:
This study aimed to evaluate the safety and feasibility of a combined regenerative approach using 532 nm laser glottoplasty followed by basic fibroblast growth factor (βFGF) injection therapy in patients with chronic vocal fold scarring.
Study Design:
Prospective clinical study.
Methods:
Between September 2021 and August 2025, 23 patients diagnosed with type I (n = 13) or type II (n = 10) vocal fold scarring underwent 532 nm laser glottoplasty, followed by intracordal βFGF injection performed at 2 weeks after the laser procedure. All patients completed both subjective and objective voice assessments at baseline and during the follow-up period.
Results:
Most objective voice parameters demonstrated improvement after the combined treatment. Jitter and shimmer values showed statistically significant improvement at 6 and 12 months postoperatively (P < 0.05). Subjective voice measures significantly improved as early as 1 month after treatment, and these improvements were maintained throughout the 12-month follow-up period. No serious procedure-related complications were observed.
Conclusions:
Sequential 532 nm laser glottoplasty followed by βFGF injection may represent an alternative treatment approach for improving voice quality in patients with chronic vocal fold scarring.
