Abstract:
Isolated thrombocytopenia is commonly diagnosed as immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). Recent publications have stimulated discussions regarding the diagnosis of ITP, including the potential for misclassification, the interaction between autoimmunity and clonality, and downstream complications of malignancy. This review focuses on these considerations in the workup and management of patients with thrombocytopenia.
