Lignin's complex structure poses challenges for its efficient conversion into valuable chemicals. Enzyme-mimetic catalysts, which operate under mild conditions with high efficiency akin to natural enzymes, offer a promising solution. This review systematically summarizes the design strategies of enzyme-mimicking catalysts, their applications in lignin depolymerization and functionalization, catalytic mechanisms, and green chemistry advantages. It covers their synthetic methods, characterization, and performance in multiphase solvents, while critically evaluating their recyclability, stability, and deactivation mechanisms. Key hurdles for industrial application, such as balancing activity with selectivity, adapting to diverse lignin feedstocks, and facilitating catalyst recovery, are discussed. Finally, future research directions are outlined to advance the development of high-value lignin conversion technologies and their scalable deployment.

Reduction of Alkenes: Asymmetric Catalytic Hydrogenation
The metal catalyst used can be either heterogeneous or homogeneous. When hydrogenation of an alkene generates a chiral center, a pair of enantiomeric products is expected to form. However, an enantiomeric excess of one of the products can be facilitated using an enantioselective reaction or an...
