[Experimental study of a new anti-glaucoma intrascleral implant]

Purpose:
This study consisted of an in vivo experiment with the goal of performing instrumental evaluation of the position of a novel anti-glaucoma intrascleral implant.
Material And Methods:
This in vivo study was conducted on 5 Chinchilla rabbits (n=5). The main group included 5 right eyes that underwent glaucoma surgery with implantation of the device. The comparison group consisted of 5 left eyes that underwent glaucoma surgery without implant placement. Animals in both groups were followed up for 3 months with biomicroscopy, ultrasound biomicroscopy, and optical coherence tomography (OCT) of the surgery area. At the end of the observation period, the rabbits were removed from the experiment for further research.
Results:
The developed intrascleral implant maintained correct position and was clearly visualized within the scleral tissue in animals of the main group throughout the entire observation period (up to 3 months).
Conclusion:
The new anti-glaucoma intrascleral implant made of polymethylmethacrylate is promising for further research.
