Abstract:
The healthcare sector contributes to the carbon footprint. It is believed that it could account for 4-5% of global net emissions. Part of these emissions correspond to the pharmaceutical sector. In primary care, family doctors are in a privileged position, accessible and close to their patients, to prescribe rationally, based on scientific evidence, taking into account environmental health and, above all, consulting with the patient. Thus, when prescribing inhalers for respiratory therapy, bearing in mind that pMDIs have a more powerful greenhouse effect than CO2, alternatives should be sought whenever possible. And when prescribing antibiotics, to reduce the impact of resistance and its ecological consequences. It is urgent to minimise the environmental impact of our prescribing in order to reduce our carbon footprint, respecting, preserving and committing to the health of our planet.
