Abstract:
In order to address the issues of resource inefficiency and substantial deformation of adjacent rock caused by inadequate coal pillar width in gob-side entry driving within steeply dipping thick coal seams, a comprehensive study was conducted using theoretical analysis, numerical modeling, and practical field assessments. The goal of this study was to determine the ideal width for coal pillars and the relevant technologies for controlling surrounding rock. Theoretical calculations suggested a suitable pillar width between 5.34 m and 6.27 m, while various numerical simulations proposed an engineering range of 6 m to 8 m, ultimately leading to the conclusion that 6 m is the most effective width. As a result, a novel asymmetric combined support system featuring "bolt+extended anchor cable+U-shaped steel truss beam" was developed. Field tests demonstrated that the proposed asymmetric combined support scheme reduced the relative deformation rate of the surrounding rock in the roadway by an average of 56%, maintaining the deformation within 10% of the roadway's cross-sectional dimensions, thus ensuring effective roadway stability. The findings from this research provide significant insights and theoretical support for the design of similar mining engineering projects.
