Electrification Behavior and Tribological Performance of GCr15 Ball-SiC Textured Friction Pairs under Water

Abstract:
To improve the water lubrication performance of ceramic-metal friction pairs, this article uses laser processing technology to create gradient curved-bottom, shield-shaped textures on the SiC surface, significantly enhancing the surface hydrodynamic effect. Through friction and wear experiments pairing GCr15 metal balls with SiC ceramic discs, the study compares the friction coefficient, wear rate, frictional temperature rise, and frictional electrical signals under different conditions for three types of SiC surfaces: nontextured (NT), uniformly distributed textured (T-U), and nonuniformly distributed textured (T-NU). The results show that the SiC surface with shield-shaped textures exhibits superior tribological performance compared to the nontextured surface under water lubrication conditions, significantly reducing the friction coefficient and wear rate of the friction pairs under corresponding conditions. Among them, the T-U surface is more suitable for medium to high-speed (1200-2000 rpm) variable load conditions, while the T-NU surface is more suitable for low-load (10 N) variable speed conditions. Additionally, during the friction process, the shield-shaped textured SiC surface can further achieve efficient antiwear lubrication of the friction pairs by promoting the formation of a mixed frictional reaction film, enhancing interfacial heat dissipation, and increasing the Coulomb repulsion in the liquid-solid interfacial frictional electric field.
