Abstract:
Chikungunya, an arboviral disease transmitted by Aedes mosquitoes, has expanded globally since the early 21st century, driven by the adaptation of Aedes albopictus to temperate regions. In Europe and Switzerland, this vector is now established, making sporadic autochthonous transmission possible during the warm months when imported cases occur. Risk is shaped by climatic factors, viral evolution, international mobility and urbanization. Mandatory notification, protection of viremic patients from mosquito bites, and pre-travel counselling are key to preventing local transmission.
