Interdisciplinary multimodal pain therapy (IMST) for patients suffering from chronic pain is well-established in the treatment algorithm. Usually, this treatment is performed over a minimum of one to a maximum of four weeks in an inpatient or alternatively in a day-clinic setting. For maintaining the primary treatment results, so-called booster sessions may be implemented. In spring 2025 a survey among facilities providing IMST in Germany was conducted. Additionally, data were analyzed from a nation-wide clinic registry starting with data from 2013. The aim of the study was to describe the current situation of IMST in Germany.The overall number of inpatient treatment facilities decreased (2013: 426; 2025: 298) whereas the number of day-clinic facilities increased (2013: 39; 2025: 100). In both settings the number of treatments increased significantly (day clinic: +293%; inpatient treatment: +31%). More than 50% of all responding facilities reported providing a booster-session. However, relevant disparities between inpatient and day-clinic IMST concerning maintenance strategies could be detected.
