Brillouin light scattering was used to investigate the elastic properties of the ferroelectric crystal RbH2AsO4 (RDA) across the 4¯2m → mm2 phase transition near 105 K. Sound velocities, linewidths, and intensities of eight acoustic modes were measured in the temperature range 40 - 300 K. Particular attention was given to phonons propagating in the plane perpendicular to the z-axis, where group-theoretical considerations predict anomalous elastic behavior associated with ferroelasticity. Complementary temperature-dependent X-ray diffraction measurements were performed to determine the spontaneous deformation and its evolution through the phase transition. The obtained strain behavior was compared with that of the reference hydrogen-bonded ferroelectric KH2PO4 (KDP), enabling a broader assessment of ferroelastic characteristics within this family of crystals. The results establish RDA as a model system for studying complex ferroelastic behavior involving multiple interacting elastic modes.
