Abstract:
During Plasmodium male gamete formation, axoneme release places extraordinary mechanical stress on a structurally simplified basal body. A new study identifies Calcifer as a late-recruited stabilizer that protects this vulnerable organelle from force-induced failure, revealing an elegant evolutionary solution to a severe biomechanical challenge.
