Summary

  • To investigate the temporal relationship between calcitonin gene-related peptide inhibitors (CGRPi) and glaucoma risk in individuals with migraine.
  • To compare glaucoma incidence in patients using CGRPi versus those using other migraine preventive medications.

Main Methods:

  • A multinational retrospective cohort study involving adults with migraine receiving preventive medications (2018-2024).
  • Participants were divided into CGRPi and non-CGRPi groups, propensity score matched (1:1), and followed for up to 3 years.
  • Cox proportional hazards models were used to compare glaucoma risk, with results reported as hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs).

Conclusions:

  • Systemic use of CGRPi, particularly monoclonal antibody formulations, is associated with a decreased risk of glaucoma in adults with migraine.
  • These findings suggest a potential neuroprotective effect of CGRPi in the context of migraine and glaucoma risk.
