Background:

Rock climbing participation is rising, leading to increased musculoskeletal injuries.
Understanding climbers' healthcare decisions and provider trust is crucial for improving care pathways.

Purpose of the Study:

To examine healthcare-seeking behaviors among rock climbers after musculoskeletal injury.
To assess healthcare provider trust and satisfaction in this population.

Main Methods:

A cross-sectional online survey was administered to 145 rock climbers with climbing-related injuries.
Data collected included provider type, reasons for seeking care, and trust/satisfaction ratings.
Qualitative analysis of free-text comments identified key themes.

Main Results:

Physical or occupational therapists (PT/OTs) were the most common providers (31.7%), followed by specialists (24.1%) and primary care providers (PCPs; 16.6%).
Delayed care (68.3%) was common, attributed to cost, time, and self-treatment confidence, particularly for pulley injuries.
PT/OTs and specialists received higher trust and satisfaction ratings compared to PCPs.

Conclusions:

Healthcare provider trust and satisfaction are influenced by sport-specific knowledge and treatment approaches.
Delayed care and self-management are prevalent, especially for finger injuries.
PT/OTs are frequently the initial and definitive providers for rock climbing injuries.
