Abstract:
A new polyketide-macrolactone, phomolide I (1), and its derivative, phomolide C (2), were isolated from the endophytic fungus Arthrinium marii M-211 obtained from the mangrove species Bruguiera gymnorrhiza (L.) Lamk. The structures of 1 and 2 were determined through a comprehensive analysis of their spectral data and physicochemical properties, including the precise absolute stereochemical configuration of 1, which was established using the electronic circular dichroism (ECD) exciton chirality method. Compounds 1 and 2 showed moderate cytotoxicity against human promyelocytic leukaemia (HL60) cells, with IC50 values of 20.26 ± 2.48 and 13.02 ± 0.76 μM, respectively.
