Endoscopic Studies I: Bronchoscopy and Thoracoscopy01:30

Endoscopic Studies I: Bronchoscopy and Thoracoscopy

Endoscopy is a non-surgical medical technique used to examine a person's internal organs and vessels. This lesson will focus on two types of endoscopic studies: bronchoscopy and thoracoscopy.
Bronchoscopy
Description
Bronchoscopy is a procedure that involves direct visualization of the larynx, trachea, and bronchi for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. A flexible fiber optic or rigid bronchoscope is used to carry out the procedure. The fiber-optic bronchoscope is more frequently used due to...

Urologic Endoscopic Procedure: Cystoscopic Examination

Meaning of Cystoscopic Examination:Cystoscopy is an essential diagnostic tool in urology that is used to assess the structure and function of the genitourinary system. It provides a direct view of the urethra, bladder, and, in some cases, the ureteral openings. This procedure helps detect structural abnormalities, infections, cancers, and blockages in the urinary tract. There are two types of cystoscopy:Flexible cystoscopy is commonly performed in outpatient settings due to its less invasive...

Endoscopic Procedures I: Esophagogastroduodenoscopy

An Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) is a diagnostic procedure in which an endoscopist uses a flexible, lighted endoscope to visualize the upper gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The procedure includes visualizing the oropharynx, esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine, the duodenum.
During an EGD, the endoscope can be used to:

Summary

Generative chromoendoscopy, an AI-driven tool, enhanced gastric neoplasm visibility compared to white-light imaging. This novel technique proved feasible and comparable to real chromoendoscopy in a clinical setting.

Area of Science:

  • Gastroenterology
  • Medical Imaging
  • Artificial Intelligence

Background:

  • Generative indigo carmine chromoendoscopy (generative chromoendoscopy) is a novel AI-based image-enhanced endoscopic technique.
  • Its clinical feasibility and efficacy in improving gastric neoplasm visibility remain unvalidated.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the clinical feasibility of generative chromoendoscopy.
  • To compare the visibility of gastric neoplasms using generative chromoendoscopy versus conventional white-light imaging (WLI) and real chromoendoscopy.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective, multicenter study involving 60 patients with early gastric cancer or adenoma.
  • Deep neural network transformed WLI images into generative chromoendoscopy images.
  • Endoscopists assessed lesion visibility on a 7-point Likert scale during live endoscopy.

Main Results:

  • Generative chromoendoscopy showed improved visibility scores (0.67 ± 0.93) compared to WLI.
  • Visibility was comparable to real chromoendoscopy (0.51 ± 1.00), with a mean difference of 0.16.
  • Differentiated-type histology, H. pylori infection, and expert status were associated with higher visibility.

Conclusions:

  • Generative chromoendoscopy is feasible for live endoscopic procedures.
  • It enhances the visibility of gastric neoplasms compared to WLI.
  • The technique achieves visibility comparable to real chromoendoscopy.
