Inhibition of Cdk Activity

The orderly progression of the cell cycle depends on the activation of Cdk protein by binding to its cyclin partner. However, the cell cycle must be restricted when undergoing abnormal changes. Summary

Long-acting pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) like lenacapavir may improve HIV prevention adherence in women. This study found no impact on the estrous cycle in mice, suggesting lenacapavir may not disrupt menstrual cycles.

  • Long-acting PrEP, such as lenacapavir, offers potential for improved adherence.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To model the effect of lenacapavir administration on estrous cyclicity in female mice.
  • To investigate potential impacts of lenacapavir on the medial preoptic area (mPOA), a key regulator of reproductive cycles.

Main Methods:

  • Adult female C57Bl/6J mice were injected with a capsid (CA) inhibitor, an analog of lenacapavir.
  • Estrous cyclicity was assessed following injection.
  • Astrocyte immunoreactivity and cellular activity in the mPOA were evaluated.

Main Results:

  • Administration of the CA inhibitor did not alter the estrous cycle.
  • The CA inhibitor did not affect astrocyte immunoreactivity or chronic cellular activity in the mPOA.
