Successful endovascular treatment of a symptomatic ascending aortic pseudoaneurysm with a modified candy plug

Abstract:
Ascending aortic pseudoaneurysm (AAP) is a rare but morbid complication after cardiac surgery. Endovascular repair can be considered for high-risk surgical candidates with suitable anatomy. We present the case of a 54-year-old man with a history of multiple previous aortic surgeries who developed a recurrent, symptomatic AAP, which was successfully treated with a novel endovascular repair using a modified candy plug technique. The procedure involved deploying a covered stent across the pseudoaneurysm orifice, followed by intraluminal occlusion with Amplatzer vascular plugs. This modified candy plug technique provides an innovative alternative therapy for treating AAP in patients with high surgical risk. The patient provided informed consent for the publication of this case report.
