Background:

Traditional intern orientation lectures have varied effectiveness.
Active learning and collaborative environments improve knowledge retention and teamwork.
Escape rooms offer an engaging, collaborative approach to medical education.

Purpose of the Study:

To create a team-building capstone exercise for emergency medicine interns.
To review and apply key content from intern orientation using an escape room format.
To foster camaraderie and teamwork among new interns.

Main Methods:

An escape room activity was designed incorporating topics from intern orientation.
Interns were divided into teams to complete escape room challenges.
A post-activity anonymous survey collected feedback on effectiveness and satisfaction.

Main Results:

100% of interns completed the survey.
92% found the activity moderately to extremely effective in reviewing orientation content.
100% recommended continuing the escape room activity for future intern classes.

Conclusions:

Escape rooms are an effective tool for reinforcing medical knowledge in an active learning environment.
This gamified approach successfully enhanced teamwork and camaraderie among new interns.
The escape room format is a valuable addition to intern orientation for improving learning outcomes and resident cohesion.
