Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing threat in Belize, particularly in surgical infections. Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) rates have more than doubled, limiting treatment options and highlighting the urgent need for interventions.

- Urgent interventions are required, including updated treatment guidelines, targeted antimicrobial stewardship, and enhanced infection control in high-burden areas.
