Introduction:
Austria is advancing the Austrian Patient Summary (APS) as a standards-based service within its national eHealth infrastructure to support clinical decision-making and EU-level health data exchange. The APS aims to provide a single, consolidated, and up-to-date patient summary by 2029, integrating high-quality structured data from authoritative sources.
Methodology:
The architecture leverages automated aggregation and a transition to a FHIR-based infrastructure, as demonstrated in a proof of concept.
Results:
The proof of concept confirmed the feasibility of aggregating APS content from distributed sources and highlighted the need for a push-based approach to ensure predictable response times.
Discussion:
The APS is designed to become an integral part of routine healthcare, supporting continuity of care and cross-border interoperability.
