Austrian EHDS Secure Processing Environment: From Regulation to Reality

Background:
The European Health Data Space (EHDS) mandates Secure Processing Environments (SPEs) to ensure privacy and compliance in secondary health data use.
Objectives:
This paper presents the architectural principles for Austria's national SPEs.
Methods:
We analyzed existing solutions and established frameworks to design an architectural concept fulfilling regulatory, technical as well as organizational requirements.
Results:
The proposed concept is based on a modular, highly automated and modern design.
Conclusion:
This approach lays the foundation for a robust, sovereign, and scalable Austrian health data ecosystem.
