Abstract:
Controlling stereoselectivity of sialylation reactions represents an important area of research. The study reported herein revealed a new promising sialyl donor equipped with orthogonal protecting groups. Through a cooperative effect of 4-O-TBDMS and 7-O-picoloyl groups, excellent preliminary results in sialylations of primary glycosyl acceptors have been obtained. We have also aquired the proof of inter-molecular H-bonding taking place via both the Pico nitrogen and the adjacent carbonyl oxygen.

Hydrogen Bonds Control the World!
Because hydrogen has very weak electronegativity when it binds with a strongly electronegative atom, such as oxygen or nitrogen, electrons in the bond are unequally shared.
