    Background:

    • Adolescent cardiovascular responses to exercise are not fully understood.
    • Isometric handgrip exercise is a common stress test.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To document the cardiovascular response to submaximal isometric handgrip (IHG) exercise in normal adolescents.
    • To compare adolescent responses to adult data.
    • To assess the safety and establish normal hemodynamic values for IHG stress testing in adolescents.

    Main Methods:

    • Echocardiography used to record left ventricular (LV) dimensions and systolic time intervals.
    • Sphygmomanometry measured blood pressure at rest and during IHG exercise (25% maximum contraction).
    • 32 healthy adolescents participated in the study.
