Purpose of the Study:

  • To identify distinct trajectories of positive affect related to physical activity (PA) in YACS.
  • To examine baseline predictors associated with these affect trajectories.
  • To assess the relationship between affect trajectories and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) goal adherence.

Main Methods:

  • Group-based multi-trajectory modeling was used on data from the 6-month IMPACT study intervention phase (n=140).
  • Baseline predictors were analyzed using ANOVA and chi-squared tests.
  • MVPA measures were analyzed using multi-level linear mixed models.

Main Results:

  • Three positive affect trajectories were identified: Low-Affect (n=57), Mid-Affect (n=58), and High-Affect (n=22).
  • Higher income and being partnered predicted Mid- and High-Affect trajectories, while Low-Affect was associated with poorer baseline quality of life.
  • High-Affect participants achieved 100% MVPA goal adherence, while Low- and Mid-Affect groups showed declining adherence (53% and 65%, respectively).

  • Positive affect trajectories vary among YACS and are linked to baseline characteristics and PA adherence.
  • Interventions should foster positive affect related to PA and offer tailored support based on individual affect trajectories.
  • Personalized interventions may improve MVPA adherence and long-term survivorship outcomes for YACS.
