Hydrogel-based Advances in Dermatological Therapy: Insights from Patents and Clinical Research

With a focus on wound healing, skin tissue engineering, the treatment of chronic inflammatory illnesses (such as acne, psoriasis, and eczema), and cosmetic and anti-aging procedures, this review provides a thorough overview of the development and application of hydrogel-based systems in dermatology. This review discusses the functional characteristics, therapeutic action, and clinical advantages of various formulations-including natural, synthetic, hybrid, and nanocomposite hydrogels. Additionally, a review of current patents and clinical studies provides an example of the new hydrogel technology landscape, which includes bioactive and smart hydrogels as well as multifunctional composites for enhanced skin regeneration and controlled drug delivery. Combining hydrogels with innovative technologies such as nanomaterials, 3D bioprinting, and responsive biomaterials further underscores the revolutionary potential in dermatological therapy. The research suggests that hydrogel-based methods are redefining the future of skin regeneration, repair, and cosmetic treatment by offering improved aesthetic outcomes, quicker healing, and higher patient compliance.
