Abstract:
Radiology practices now include four active generations shaped by distinct formative experiences that influence communication preferences, expectations, and approaches to work. Although perceived generational differences may exceed measured ones, differences in communication and engagement can create avoidable misunderstandings in practice culture and team dynamics. Drawing on the perspectives of four radiologists, each representing a different generation, this editorial outlines practical leadership strategies for interpreting generational context constructively. Trust emerges as the foundation for effective collaboration, supported by reciprocal cross-generational mentorship, shared purpose and transparent communication. Approaches to recruitment, retention, and financial decision making are framed through culture and shared purpose rather than age. When interpreted constructively, generational differences become sources of insight that strengthen collaboration and engagement to sustain effective radiology teams.
