Background:

Evidence-based practice (EBP) is critical for healthcare quality but faces implementation challenges.
Nursing leaders are key to promoting EBP, yet their competencies and barriers in Spain are underexplored.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the evidence-based practice (EBP) competency of nursing leaders and managers in Spain.
To identify factors influencing the implementation of EBP in clinical settings.

Main Methods:

A cross-sectional survey of 159 nurse managers across Spain using the EBP-COQ Prof tool.
Assessment of EBP competency across attitude, knowledge, skills, and utilization domains on a 1-5 Likert scale.
Multivariate linear regression analysis to identify predictors of EBP competency.

Main Results:

Nurse managers reported high overall EBP competency, particularly in attitude and knowledge domains.
Utilization of EBP in clinical practice was lower than expected, indicating a knowledge-to-practice gap.
EBP training, reading scientific literature, mentoring, and BPSO affiliation predicted higher EBP competence.

Conclusions:

Spanish nurse managers possess substantial EBP knowledge but face challenges in clinical application.
Adjustable factors like training and mentorship offer avenues for targeted interventions to bridge the EBP gap.
Organizational constraints may hinder the routine integration of EBP competence into managerial practice.
