Cardio-oncology is a multidisciplinary medical specialty focusing on the prevention, the early detection, and the management of cardiovascular (CV) complications associated with antineoplastic therapies. Currently, CV disease and cancer are the two leading causes of death in the population. These two patient groups overlap when oncology patients experience CV complications related to antineoplastic treatment, or when patients with known CV comorbidities require cancer treatment. Cardio-oncology aims to provide the most effective antitumor therapy while optimizing short- and long-term CV risk for cancer patients.
