The accelerating global environmental crisis is marked by pervasive water and air pollution. This situation necessitates a re-evaluation of current remediation technologies. Conventional approaches are frequently energy-intensive, reliant on hazardous chemicals, and often contribute to secondary pollution, thereby worsening the very problems they are designed to mitigate. This Outlook proposes that nanozymes offer a promising and emerging solution. Moving beyond their current efficacy in controlled laboratory environments, we envision nanozymes evolving into intelligent, highly scalable, and unequivocally environmentally benign agents. These advanced catalysts are poised to initiate a new era of sustainable environmental remediation. This article traces the developmental trajectory of nanozymes, from early stage systems to their future potential. It also critically examines the key advancements required in design, scalability, safety, and policy frameworks to enable real-world impact.
