Abstract:
Vector-borne diseases (VBDs) remain a major global health threat, affecting millions of people annually through pathogens transmitted by vectors such as mosquitoes and ticks. Climate change and rising pesticide resistance have exacerbated the prevalence of these diseases, highlighting the urgent need for innovative and sustainable control strategies. In recent years, nanotechnology has shown great potential in the design and development of novel agrochemicals capable of precisely targeting insect vectors. This review explores the potential of biogenic nanomaterials as eco-friendly and effective tools in the fight against VBDs. We summarize the biogenic synthesis methods for nanoparticles and emphasize their environmental sustainability and biological efficacy. Furthermore, we highlight the latest advances in the application of nanomaterials for VBD management, focusing on their mechanisms of action, effectiveness, and biosafety. Ultimately, this review underscores the promise of biogenic nanomaterials as sustainable solutions (RNA interference and nano-vaccines) for vector control and their potential to drive future innovations in public health. © 2026 Society of Chemical Industry.
