Summary
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in bicuspid aortic valves (BAVs) with large annuli can be successful using supra-annular sealing within leaflets. This technique with balloon-expandable valves (BEVs) may improve coronary access.
Area of Science:
- Cardiovascular Surgery
- Interventional Cardiology
- Medical Devices
Background:
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) in bicuspid aortic valves (BAVs) presents unique challenges, particularly with heavily calcified valves and large annuli exceeding standard sizing.
- Supra-annular sealing within tapered BAV anatomy may be a feasible alternative to conventional annular sealing.
