Novel Hinokitiol-Based Ester/Sulfonate Derivatives Containing Diverse Heterocycles as Potential Fungicides and

Abstract:
To discover novel fungicide and nematicide candidates based on natural product hinokitiol, twenty-two hinokitiol-based ester/sulfonate derivatives containing diverse heterocycles was prepared and their molecular structures were unambiguously determined and well characterized by melting point, NMR, and HRMS. Especially, the stereochemical structure of compound 4g was confirmed through single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Among them, most compounds have not been reported except for compounds 2a, 4a, 5a, and 5d. Compound 2c exhibited the most significant antifungal activity against Valsa mali with the EC50 value of 3.18 µg/mL and compound 4e showed the most potent nematicidal activity against Ditylenchus destructor with the LC50 value of 33.44 µg/mL, which indicated that compounds 2c and 4e were deserved to be further explored as fungicide and nematicide candidates. Furthermore, some interesting structure-activity relationships were also obtained. This work will provide some reference for the development of novel fungicides and nematicides based on hinokitiol.
