Ductus Arteriosus Aneurysms in Adults: A Case Series and Literature Review

A ductus arteriosus aneurysm (DAA) in adults is an extremely rare aortic pathology that presents significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges because of its variable clinical presentation and lack of standardized management guidelines. We present 2 cases that illustrate the wide spectrum of DAA clinical presentation and management. The first involves a 54-year-old woman with a small, stable DAA managed conservatively. The second describes a 74-year-old man with a large, symptomatic aneurysm presenting with hoarseness, successfully treated with a hybrid surgical and endovascular approach. The literature on adult DAAs remains limited, with no standardized treatment guidelines. The current management approaches are primarily based on case reports and small case series, requiring individualized decision-making based on aneurysm characteristics, patient symptoms, and surgical risk. Additionally, we performed a review of 121 DAA cases reported in adults and analyzed their clinical presentation, diagnostic approaches, treatment modalities, and outcomes.
