Introduction:
Digital innovation to support nursing practice requires a clear understanding of everyday workflows. The N!CA project aims to improve nursing workflows through digital solutions and process innovation.
Methods:
Field observations and co-creation workshops were conducted in Austrian hospitals and nursing homes to analyze nursing workflows and identify improvement potentials.
Results:
Heterogeneous processes were identified across six workflow domains. Four priority areas for (digital) innovation emerged: patient involvement in nursing assessment, nursing handover, interdisciplinary rounds, and medication management.
Discussion:
Findings provide a basis for workflow optimization and technology-enabled solutions to enhance nursing practice, efficiency, and patient-centered care.
